FAQ

Questions, answered.

01 Do you need scaffolding to clean our building?

Usually not. Depending on the building we use rope descent systems (RDS), the building’s own gondola or a truck-mounted lift that works straight from the street. Where the facade calls for it, we also work from suspended or pipe scaffolding.

02 Can you do more than clean the windows while you’re up there?

Yes. Our high-rise crews also handle façade cleaning, inspections, window caulking, bird-spike installation and other exterior building work — from the same access.

03 How often should a high-rise be cleaned?

It depends on location and exposure. Many buildings schedule exterior cleaning several times a year — we’ll recommend a schedule after your free estimate.

04 Are you insured for work at height?

Yes. Skyway Windows is licensed and carries workers’ compensation and $10 million in general liability insurance. Contact us for insurance details for your building.

05 How do you choose between rope access, gondolas and lifts?

We assess the building during a free estimate. Height, facade shape, roof equipment and street access decide whether rope access, the building’s own gondola (BMU) or a truck-mounted lift is the safest and most efficient way up.

06 How high can your lifts reach?

Our sister company Skyway Lifts operates truck-mounted lifts — Skylift S230 XR, Skylift S183 XDT and Palfinger P280 AXE — with working heights from 40 up to 230 ft. Above that we use rope access or the building’s own gondola.

07 Do you clean interior glass as well?

Yes. We offer both exterior and interior window cleaning, plus stain removal and glass restoration.

About this service

High-rise window cleaning in New York City

Clean glass is one of the first things tenants, guests and passers-by notice about a tower. Skyway Windows has cleaned high-rise buildings in New York City since 2000 — residential towers, hotels, office buildings and new developments — and we choose the access method for each facade instead of forcing one approach on every building.

Rope access, scaffolding and truck-mounted lifts

We recommend the safest and most efficient access for each facade during a free on-site estimate:

  • Rope descent systems (RDS) — SPRAT-trained technicians descend on ropes for fast, flexible work on tall and complex facades.
  • Gondolas and scaffolding — we operate building maintenance units (BMU) and work from suspended or pipe scaffolding.
  • Truck-mounted lifts — through our sister company Skyway Lifts we run a Skylift S230 XR, a Skylift S183 XDT and a Palfinger P280 AXE, with working heights from 40 up to 230 ft straight from the street.
  • Lean-out belt systems and traditional methods where the building allows them.

More than clean glass

While our crews are on the facade, they can also take care of façade cleaning, inspections, window caulking, bird-spike installation and other exterior building work — from the same access.

Licensed, insured and certified for work at height

Skyway Windows is a licensed and fully insured New York company carrying workers’ compensation and $10 million in general liability coverage. We are OSHA compliant, ANSI affiliated and an IPAF member — and an official IPAF training and certification center, so our lift operators are trained and certified in-house. Our rope access technicians are SPRAT-trained, and our crews hold SST cards where the job requires them.

We clean exterior and interior glass, remove stains and restore glass across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, as well as Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut. Every job ends with a walk-through, and if something was missed we come back and clean again for free.
